The series twice faced cancellation in its first 2 seasons. At the end of the first season, co-protagonist Harry Enfield resigned and Thames Television considered canceling the series instead of searching for a replacement. During its second season ITV considered canceling the series because its peak viewing figures suggested that it had only 7 million viewers.
