Trying to scare an embezzler, Hercule Poirot narrates a story that the grand vizier Ptahhotep was executed for embezzling the Pharaoh's wealth. Ptahhotep is a historical figure, the vizier (first minister) of Pharaoh Djedkare Isesi (reigned late 25th century to mid-24th century BC). Ptahhotep was not actually executed. He is famous for writing "The Maxims of Ptahhotep", a book intended to instruct young men in appropriate behavior.
