In February 2018, showrunner Jeff Franklin was removed from his position by Warner Bros. after numerous complaints from staffers about Franklin's behavior, such as "being verbally abusive to staffers and making inappropriate statements in the writers' room, including making sexually charged comments about his personal relationships and sex life." According to a complainant, Franklin also made a habit of bringing women he dated to the set and sometimes giving them bit parts in the series. The initial complaint was made in an anonymous letter to Warner Bros. executives during production of Season 1. Warner subsequently initiated an internal investigation. After finding sufficient evidence to back the numerous complaints, Warner Bros. made the decision not to renew Franklin's contract after the conclusion of Season 3. Co-executive producers Steve Baldikoski and Bryan Behar took over as showrunners from Season 4 onward.
