Many of the cases are based on real-life examples. For instance, the case with the teenage girls being poisoned by insecticide on their new jeans was based on the 1963 Fresno incident where kids who wore jeans newly bought from the discount warehouse, without washing them first, fell ill with a mysterious illness.
