This film is not a direct remake of Willy Wonka e la fabbrica di cioccolato (1971), but there is one similarity between the two: in the novel, the children are accompanied by both parents (except for Charlie, who only brings Grandpa Joe). In the films, however, each child brings only one parent, for a total of two mothers, two fathers, and one grandfather. This was also a similarity that the films share with the Broadway musical.
