Many summaries of the movie (particularly those written prior to its release) claim that the plot involved the X-Men going back in time and teaming up with their former selves. No such thing happens in this movie. Only Wolverine travels back in time, and does so retaining his 1973 body, so he has no way of encountering a "past self".
