Loubna Abidar courted the filmmaker, Nabil Ayouch, by trickery, going so far as to disguise herself as a prostitute to pass the casting. "I arrived in the office of Nabil Ayouch by making him believe that I was a professional whore. I had disguised myself. I had added a lot of hair, a lot of make-up so as not to miss the opportunity to work with this director. The next day, he called me to tell him details of my pseudo life. So I told him the truth, and implored him to hire me anyway... Nabil refused, but he gave me a job as an artistic consultant on the preparation of the film. After eight months of work, I did everything to make him accept that I was capable of carrying the film, not another actress or a real prostitute. Four days before the start of filming, he ended up giving me the part. At first, I refused. During the preparation, I realized how much this character needs to be played by an experienced actress.
