In 2001, novelist David Bergentino crafted a pitch titled "Freddy vs. Jason: Blood Knows Blood" to coincide with "Freddy vs. Jason: Hell Unbound, a video game that was intended to be released alongside the long delayed movie. Planned for Playstation 2, PC, and Dreamcast, but the latter console was discountinued the same year, so the X-Box would've been considered instead. The story of "Blood Knows Blood" was Bergentino's attempt for the movie itself, having read and dismissed almost all of the previous scripts. His pitch had Freddy's trapped in the dream realm and desperately wanting into the real world. The only way to achieve this is to kill off and absorb the Dream Demons from Nightmare 6 - La fine (1991) and the only way to do that is through a monumentally high body count. He plans to use a pop star's upcoming concert, filled to the brim with crowds of people to get the necessary kills to absorb and escape. Jacob Johnson from Nightmare 5 - Il mito (1989) can hop into and out of dreams, becoming the only way to stop Krueger. Jacob and planned targeted pop star team up to get Jason to go after Freddy in the dreams, but resurrects him the wrong way, and he immediately kills people before the heroes lead Jason to the dreams. Freddy can't directly go after Jason because he learns Jason has no imagination of fear to use as an advantage. The story also has Jason often seeing his mother, Pamela Voorhees appearing as a friendly, ghostly figure guiding him. With the story having them fight in the dreamscape, the arena, now full, instead watches the final fight of Freddy and Jason with the fate of the world depending on it's outcome. At the end, Pamela's spirit encourages Jason to get back up after struggling in the battle and just before decapiting Freddy, Jason utters to him "Blood knows Blood." Unfortunately, the feedback on Bergentino's treatment was that it was "too expensive" even before it went to it's script stage.
