Stephen King is an admitted fan of Shirley Jackson, and her work on The Haunting of Hill House was a big influence on his novel The Shining. King wrote a draft of the movie, but after numerous changes he demanded his name be taken off. Courtland Mead, who provided voice work for the children, played Danny Torrence in Stephen King's Shining (1997).
