When first introduced, Necla, Aydin's sister, starts to read a history magazine: "NTV Tarih, Vol. 47". The cover of the issue reads as "Oguz Atay: Hissiyatimizin Tarihçisi" (Oguz Atay: The Historian of Our Feelings). Atay was a pioneer of the modern novel in Turkey. His first novel, Tutunamayanlar (The Disconnected), has been described as "probably the most eminent novel of twentieth-century Turkish literature" by UNESCO.
