The five tones in the intro of one of the songs used throughout the movie seems to pay homage to the five musical tones in Incontri ravvicinati del terzo tipo (1977) that the aliens used to communicate: Re, Mi, Do, Do, So. "Close Encounters" was directed by Steven Spielberg, who was also a founder of DreamWorks.
