Ms. Yutani appearing in the film's final scene was meant to be a sequel hook, for a potential third AvP film featuring her as a major character. This would ultimately never happen as the third film was cancelled. Although the film was able to recover its production costs (when you factor in DVD/Blu-Ray sales) the overwhelmingly negative critical reaction killed off any sequel plans.
