Filming took place entirely in Bulgaria. Shooting locations included the Nu Boyana Film Studios (located in in Sofia), Bolata (a small cove on the Black Sea), Pobiti Kamani (the only desert in Bulgaria), Bistritsa (a village containing the remains of a Medieval monastery) , Zlatnite Mostove (a large stone river), Pernik (a town containing a Thracian necropolis and several archaeological sites), and Vitosha (a mountain massif).
