When the ratings of Moonlight indicated it was going to be renewed, Alex O'Loughlin was signed to a three-year contract. However, production was suspended due to the writer's strike. When it returned, it couldn't maintain the ratings and was canceled. Rather than buy out his contract, he was offered Three Rivers (2009) which he accepted. Upon that cancellation he was offered the lead in Hawaii Five-0 (2010).
