When Gump, Jack Pumpkinhead, and Tik-Tok are turned into ornaments, the rock-like Nome King changes in appearance to a more organic looking being. He tells Mombi that soon no one will be left who remembers Ozma and he'll be completely human. It has been speculated that the king was once human and is trying to return to his original form. This element of the character was created by the film, and appears nowhere in L. Frank Baum's Oz stories.
