Although the well known theme song introduces the audience to Maverick and describes his lifestyle, it contains two factual errors in relation to the Maverick creed. The song states "luck is his companion, gambling is his game", and later it states "luck is the lady that he loves the best". However, regular viewers can hear all the various Mavericks say repeatedly throughout the series that the game of poker is a science, and although they play the game they do *not* gamble. The Mavericks also state regularly that they play poker using a substantial knowledge of the odds and that they do not rely on luck. Of course, "The scientific application of the principles of probability is his game" doesn't sing very well.
