Nicole Perlman wrote a treatment for a Black Widow movie around 2010/2011, but Marvel/Disney reportedly weren't ready yet to take the risk of making a big-budget movie centered on a female superhero. Due to the delay, Warner Bros/DC Entertainment's Wonder Woman (2017) beat the film to theaters, followed by Marvel's own Captain Marvel (2019) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020). Many mistakenly give Wonder Woman credit for being the first major female-led superhero film, but that honor goes to Supergirl - La ragazza d'acciaio (1984). WW84 takes place the same year that Supergirl was released.
