In some scene there are clear links to previous Batman movies, specifically ones featuring the Joker. In the opening scene, when Arthur is applying his make up, the outline of Batman's face can be made from the mirror. When Arthur visits Bruce at his home, Bruce gets down from his climbing frame by sliding down a pole - much like the Batman played by Adam West in the 1966 version. When Arthur says 'put on a happy face' - this is a line used by Jack Nicholson when he portrayed the Joker in Batman (1989) When Arthur is in the police car watching the events in Gotham, he leans against the window in the same pose as Heath Ledger who famously portrayed Joker in The Dark Knight. When he is then hit by the ambulance and the thugs carry him out and place his body on the police car. This is a homage to the same scene in the Batman game - Arkham City - where the Joker (voiced by Mark Hamil) was killed and placed on the Batmobile.
