Sigourney Weaver's father, Sylvester Weaver, created Your Show of Shows, which launched the careers of many comedians, notably Mel Brooks. John Hurt worked with Brooks several times in the next decade, appearing in The Elephant Man, History of the World: Part 1, and Spaceballs, which parodied his role in this film.
