Besides Imad (Alexander Siddig) never being referred to by name, another prominent character is never even given a name: The Hospitaler (played by David Thewlis). While it has yet to be officially confirmed, there is a popular fan theory about the Hospitaler that he is either an Archangel from Heaven or even the Christian God himself. The best scenes to justify this theory are (from the Director's Cut) the 'Burning Bush' sequence and the aftermath of the assassination attempt on Balian by the Templars. He also mentions, in the Director's Cut, to Balian at their first meeting in France that Balian's dead wife and stillborn child are the subject of his prayers. In the context of the scene, it implies that Balian's wife was allowed to enter Heaven despite having committed suicide.
