In Halliday's death video announcement, his casket is the same photon torpedo tube in which Spock's body is placed at the end of Star Trek II - L'ira di Khan (1982). This foreshadows that, like Spock, Halliday's body has deceased but his mind is still preserved: Spock's mind was transferred into another person before his death, while Halliday has uploaded his subconscious into the OASIS.
