Stanley Tucci and Alfred Molina were also considered for the role of Adrian Monk before Tony Shalhoub was picked. Both would be a guest star in Monk episodes and get Special Guest Star billing, Tucci as David Ruskin in Detective Monk: Mr. Monk and the Actor (2006), (interestingly as an actor playing Monk in a TV movie) and Molina as Peter Magneri in Detective Monk: Mr. Monk and the Naked Man (2007).
