In 1954, Harper's Bazaar published the story The Jet-Propelled Couch, by psychologist Robert M. Lindner, which tells in two parts the story of "Kirk Allen", his patient and also an important scientist who worked for the government. The true identity of "Kirk Allen" has been debated, because the story contains similarities to the character described in Sylvia Nasar's book, adapted for the cinema by Akiva Goldsman in the film directed by Ron Howard, A Beautiful Mind. The story is in the book The Fifty Minute Hour (1955), written by Lindner, in which he describes several case studies of his clinical practice.
