The film was released two weeks early on August 6, 1993 in Evansville, Indiana as part of a marketing test. Evansville was selected because of its "family-oriented" audiences. The movie was also released early in Lubbock, Texas to test the movie's ability in regional markets. New Line based the success of its marketing on ticket receipts.
