April Fools' was always a fun day for the people working on the show to pull off some pranks both on and off air, but they especially enjoyed messing with the contestant. One of the things they would do is have a totally fictitious showcase in which they'd show cruddy prizes. They stopped doing it after many years because it became so predictable people were expecting it, and there was nothing more disappointing than a blah response from someone after they'd spent all that time and money preparing a practical joke. However, April Fools antics were brought back once Drew Carey became the host.
