Normally when you write a movie, you write the characters and then come up with an actor in mind to play it. Norm didn't have the imagination necessary to create a man out of nothing, so he decided to go the opposite route: he wrote the movie by choosing his dream cast first and then writing characters based on them. So from the beginning, he wanted Don Rickles, Chevy Chase, Jack Warden, Adam Sandler and Chris Farley to all be in the movie.
