Henry Cavill was Stephenie Meyer's first choice to play Edward. However, by the time production was to begin, he was 25 years old, and no longer looked the part of a 17-year old. He was then offered the part of Carlisle Cullen but turned it down due to his commitment with I Tudors (2007). Cavill and Robert Pattinson (who later took the part of Edward) would later both appear in superhero films based on DC Comics, Cavill as Superman and Pattinson as Batman.
