At 2014 San Diego Comic Con, M. Night Shyamalan said, "I think when it's all said and done, it has nothing to do with I segreti di Twin Peaks (1990)." Later, in January 2015, Shyamalan acknowledged that the series takes a cue from I segreti di Twin Peaks (1990). He said that Blake Crouch, the author of the book series, has also acknowledged his admiration for I segreti di Twin Peaks (1990).
