When Thomas Ian Nicholas first read the screenplay, he saw the "Untitled Teenage Sex Comedy" title, then he read the first page (which was originally the scene where his character goes down on Vicky) and then immediately threw the script in the trash, thinking it was porn. He called his agent, furiously asking why he would send him a porno script. The agent promised him it wasn't porn and told him to read it more. Thomas did so and afterwards wanted to do the movie.
