The original idea was to populate the cast with regulars from Il Saturday Night Live (1975) including Chevy Chase, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray. However, most of these early blooming stars were more interested in carving out solo careers rather than being part of another ensemble. Belushi was the one exception and, arguably, became the biggest star at the time thanks to his performance in this film.
