Steven Moffat considered casting a woman or a non-Caucasian actor as The War Doctor, a non-traditional casting choice for a non-traditional Doctor, but because the Doctors that came after the War Doctor were ashamed, he decided against it because he was terrified of fans claiming racism or sexism. A similar idea was later realized in the episode Doctor Who: Fugitive of the Judoon (2020), in which one incarnation of the Doctor is played by British-Jamaican actress Jo Martin.
