If going by the number of episodes spent in each region (and not including the Orange Islands or the Battle Frontier), the Kanto saga marks the quickest time that Ash has ever earned eight Gym Badges, taking only 58 episodes to do so. By this point in Johto, Ash had just obtained fourth Badge whereas in Hoenn, he had just obtained fifth Badge; in Sinnoh, he only had three Badges; in Unova, he had five Badges and in Kalos he had four Badges. Conversely, the longest time it took Ash to obtain eight badges was during the Diamond & Pearl series, when it took 161 episodes for him to do so.
