The film introduces a version of the character Mombi from the Oz novels. In the novels, Mombi is the deposed Wicked Witch of the North, and a primary foe for the royal family of Oz. She was introduced "The Marvelous Land of Oz" (1904), and was executed in "The Lost King of Oz" (1925).
