There are two references to Alfred Hitchcock's La signora scompare (1938), in which Vanessa Redgrave's father Sir Michael Redgrave starred: Ratchett disappears as the Orient Express vaults through a darkened tunnel, and an alphabetical initial is drawn on a frosted window during the summation scene.
