In July 1986, writer-director Harold Ramis said: "I finished the picture last July [1985], and it was delayed for release this summer. Meanwhile, three other comedies about island resorts came out: Una pazza vacanza di Natale (1986), Acqua in bocca (1985), and Vacanze calde (1985). My heart stopped each time one of them released. Fortunately for us, all of them failed."
