As ratings started to fall but costs were still escalating for all the US primetime soaps in the late 80s, Lorimar-Telepictures Productions were forced to reduce the budgets of each of their hit shows; Dallas (1978), California (1979) and Falcon Crest. Also, at the beginning of the seventh season, due to the largest number of rotating guests on the show, and of budget constraints, 5 of the 10 main stars didn't appear in several episodes of this season (Brett Cullen, Margaret Ladd, John Callahan, Dana Sparks and Chao Li Chi).
