"When you have somebody like Terence it really does help, because you fill in a lot. He just has this certain kind of face and he is a certain age now that, when he looks a certain way, you fill in a back story," says Steven Soderbergh explaining how Terrence Stamp's performance helps build any back story that might have been cut from the screenplay.
