The word "fracking" is short for a natural gas extraction process called fracturing, which is the subject of some episodes involving the energy company where Vic's husband worked. It is also a fictional word, originally used in Battaglie nella galassia (1978) in place of the F bomb. It continued to be used in the 2004 update (Battlestar Galactica (2004)). Katee Sackhoff, who portrays sheriff's deputy Victoria "Vic" Moretti in this series, portrayed Lieutenant Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in Battlestar Galactica from 2004-2009. Other actors from Battlestar Galactica (2004) who appear on Longmire include two Cylon characters connected to Starbuck: Michael Trucco who played her husband Sam, and Callum Keith Rennie who played Leoben.
