The movie in some territories opened on the same day as The Legend of Tarzan (2016). An early Daily Mail article publicizing Mike & Dave - Un matrimonio da sballo (2016) published on 17th June 2015 likened star Zac Efron to the Tarzan character headlining: "He's a real life Tarzan! Zac Efron flexes his incredible rippling muscles while swinging through the jungle with co-star Aubrey Plaza". Photography of both Efron and co-star Adam Devine was taken of them swinging on ropes into a lake in Hawaii, as Tarzan is well known to do.
