In a departure from the original Tolkien, Gandalf's sword (Glamdring) does not glow in the presence of orcs (like Bilbo's Sting) and is never named. In the commentary for the Extended Edition, Sir Peter Jackson and Philippa Boyens joked that "budgetary cuts" led to "not enough blue left" for both swords. However, the commentary for one of the Hobbit movies explained that a glowing Glamdring would have looked too much like a Star Wars light-saber.
