A subplot involving the Sneakoscope concept from the novel, as well as an attempted attack on Ron in his sleep at Hogwarts by Sirius Black, were filmed but ultimately scrapped from the finished version (parts of these scenes can be found as additional scenes on some DVD versions). A Sneakoscope alerts the owner to someone in the area who isn't truthful. In the book, it frequently goes off, so Harry believes it is broken, but it is actually picking up Scabbers/Peter Pettigrew. The other scene, like in the book, had Black entering the Gryffindor dormitory where he mistakes Ron's bed for Harry's; it is learned that Black was able to enter the room because he knew the password from a list that Neville Longbottom had lost. A small bit from the latter scene, where Harry speaks about missing a chance to capture Black, had featured prominently in most promotional trailers. (Source: 2-Disc DVD extras and trailers).
