Kenny O'Donnell's joke about going back to Lyndon's ranch and shooting deer out of a convertible is based on an actual event. In November 1960, Johnson invited Kennedy to his Texas ranch and took the newly-elected President deer hunting. However, there is no evidence that the two shot deer out of a convertible.
