Tiffani Amber Thiessen was brought on in Season 5 as Valerie Malone to replace Shannen Doherty (Brenda), after Doherty's infamous firing by Aaron Spelling. Doherty made headlines for her 5 month marriage to Ashley G. Hamilton, son of actors Alana Stewart & George Hamilton, & stepson of rocker Rod Stewart. Doherty told the press she asked to be released from her contract to pursue other acting roles. Aaron Spelling denied firing Doherty over unprofessional conduct & habitually tardiness; he praised her as a rare talent. But the tabloids put Doherty's personal life on every cover. She was hounded relentlessly by paparazzi & photographed outside of nightclubs/bars all over Hollywood. Spelling never said an unkind word about Doherty to the press. After a successful role in the indie-hit Mallrats, Doherty surprised her fans by returning to her tv roots, on another Aaron Spelling series "Charmed".
