In the UK and Ireland, due to legacy issues with earlier depictions of Ninjas and Martial Arts, the 1987 television animation series, which was being shown in children's programming, was re-packaged as "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles". With episodes edited, title graphics changed, and the theme song lyrics revised to replace 'Ninja' with 'Hero', the merchandise and all related products were amended accordingly also. Though the UK version of this film went through edits and cropping (particularly in the use of nunchucks), it was nonetheless released in cinemas and on home video with the 'Ninja' title intact, possibly to differentiate between the film and cartoon, and to emphasize it's darker tone and PG rating.
