While the UNSC uses the futuristic weapons from the Halo games, the Insurrectionists use heavily modified versions of modern guns. In an interview with Paramount+, Andrew Orlando, the props master, said this was done to match the role that each side is from. The UNSC being a well funded military, and the Insurrectionists being mostly outdated terrorists/freedom fighters.
