David Spade was actually the first choice for the role of Roy Martin/Trevor Thomas but he had just finished a difficult shoot with Black Sheep (1996) a few months earlier and was not ready to take on a large part again in a movie for the rest of the year. He actually suggested Tim Matheson because the two had just finished Black Sheep together. He was however willing to do a cameo appearance in the film so he cameoed as Sergio, Carol's hairdresser.
