A characteristic of Christopher Nolan's Batman is that when talking with Gordon, Batman suddenly disappears. The origin of this is traced back to Tutti gli uomini del presidente (1976), from a scene in which Bob Woodward (portrayed by Robert Redford) is in a dark parking structure at night speaking with his mysterious deep cover FBI informant (known as Deep Throat, portrayed by Hal Holbrook). In one instance, Woodward hears the squeal of car tires and when he turns back to continue the conversation, Deep Throat has vanished.
