At the start of production it was decided that it would be too hot for stuntmen to wear the Gammorean guard costumes on location in Yuma, Arizona. But when temperatures on the set at Elstree Studios in England ended up rivaling those in the desert, Il ritorno dello Jedi (1983) reversed his plans and decided to include the 'pig guards' in the outside scenes as well.
