Nevus is a birthmark or a mole on the skin, especially a birthmark in the form of a raised red patch. A nexus simplex (a.k.a. salmon patches, erythema nuchal, angel's kiss, stork bite) on the other hand is is the most common vascular anomaly of infancy, present in approximately 40% of newborns. This birthmark is formed by dilated (ectatic) capillaries which are remnants of fetal blood circulation in the skin.
