Even though M3gan is perceived as evil, as she kills people (including a dog), the true villain of this movie is actually Gemma. While not evil, it was her actions that caused all of the fatalities and attempted murders in the film. She also recklessly endangered Cady by taking her in, being inexperienced and emotionally unavailable to her needs, then trusting a robot prototype built with unproven and untrusted technology to essentially raise Cady for her, only to take M3gan away and traumatize her later. It was also Gemma who introduced the idea of death to M3gan, along with programming her to protect Cady no matter what the cost, which led to the murders. Gemma's goals were self-serving and it led to the deaths of six people, a dog, and even the attempted murder of her co-workers.
